How to Get Out of a Reading Slump
A reading slump is a period of a loss of interest reading. Reading slumps can make it hard for even the most avid readers to start, continue, and finish books.
So… how can you get out of reading slumps?
Read short books
Finishing a book is nothing if not satisfactory. Many people may fall into reading slumps if they haven’t felt that sense of accomplishment in awhile. Long books can get overwhelming and finishing several short books in the same amount of time that you can finish a long book will feel more rewarding.
Try out different formats
In this new age of digital media consumption, e-books and audiobooks are sometimes more accessible that physical books. A lot of popular books can also be found in pdf format (shh) that you can upload to your tablet and read from there!
Don’t be afraid to DNF books
Also known as your “did not finish” pile. People may feel guilty for not finishing books. This is understandable due to how expensive books can be, but there are a few options to combat this: you can donate books, sell them online, or offer it to a friend who can love the book a little more than you do.
Find books similar to those you already love
Although book recommendations from people you trust usually works out, sometimes there are hit-or-misses. Check out What Should I Read Next to find books similar to those that are already on your “favorites” shelf! Simply just type in a book title or an author that you enjoy and let the website do the rest.
Want to make reading easier?
Find online bookstores
Leaving your home to purchase the new release everyone is talking about can be a hassle. While books can be purchased through large retailers, I like to support the smaller businesses!
Trial-run as many books as you can
This can be done by going into bookstores physically, but websites online offer free excerpts as well!
